Power BI business analytics for executives

This report gives an executive the company's headline figures. For the period you choose it shows revenue, costs, profit, receivables and payables, and liquidity ratios, each compared automatically against the same period a year earlier. Revenue and cost movements are shown month by month and as totals for the period. It also carries the cash held at the bank at each month end, the movement in working capital, a condensed profit and loss statement, the number of invoices issued, and stock on hand.

Power BI sales analysis

This page shows sales, profit and profit margin for the period, along with how many invoices were issued, the average invoice value and the discounts given — all against the same period a year earlier. Sales are broken down by product group and business unit, and a table shows each account manager's sales, the margin on them and how many customers they hold.

Power BI product profitability

The seventh page shows product profitability for the period and against the same period a year earlier, with arrows marking the movement so problem lines stand out immediately. Summary revenue by product sits in helper tables on the left. Select a row in any of them and the main table filters to that business unit, product group or account manager; select a product in the main table and the helper tables filter themselves. That way you can see which units sold product X, which group it belongs to, and how much of it each account manager sold.

Power BI supplier profitability

The eighth page covers supplier profitability. The table shows at once whose products earn the most revenue and whose earn the least. Select one or more suppliers and the product table filters to them; select one or more products and the supplier charts show who those products were bought from.

Detailed revenue and cost analysis

The ninth page compares revenue and costs in detail against the same period a year earlier. It shows straight away which products have a cost-of-sales problem: if revenue is falling, cost of sales should be falling too, and the other way round. You can check quickly whether cost of sales is moving in proportion to product revenue. Products can be filtered by supplier, and you can choose which fields the main table shows and in what order.

Product sales analysis

The tenth page shows which products are selling more and which are selling less, in euros or in margin. You can list only the products that are growing, or only those that are falling, and filter the main table by customer and supplier.

Power BI customer analytics

The eleventh page covers customers, showing sales for the period against each one. Pick a customer and you can see which account managers sold to them and how much, the average daily sales to that customer over the period and over the same period a year earlier, and the day-by-day sales trend. The page also shows how many customers the company won and lost during the period.

The fifteenth page compares the profit and loss statements of two periods. If you have run a marketing campaign and want to know whether it actually paid, this report makes it plain. Or, if you ran a similar campaign last year, you can see how this year compares.

Power BI detailed sales analysis

The nineteenth page is a detailed sales analysis showing sales revenue and quantities month by month. Select a product and you get a miniature profit and loss statement for it. The report also lets you look at how the sales of different products correlate: select two or more products in the quantities table and the chart plots their sales over time. If the lines move roughly in parallel, those products' sales are strongly correlated — which may mean that discounting one makes discounting the other unnecessary.

Frequently asked questions

What is Power BI?

Power BI is a modern data analytics platform for presenting data quickly and clearly, filtering and sorting it, and comparing it against other periods. It also has AI features that can draw conclusions from large bodies of data with no obvious direct connection between them.

Which data sources can Power BI import from?

Power BI can import from practically every common database (SQL, DB2, Oracle, Informix, Netezza, Essbase, Impala and others), from accounting and ERP systems (Rivilė, Navision, Axapta, Salesforce, Dynamics 365), from online services (Azure DevOps, Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Facebook, web pages and more), and from Excel, PDF, XML and JSON files.

Why use Power BI if I can build the reports in Excel?

Building the same reports in Excel is considerably harder. To stop having to fix them every time the volume of data changes, you end up writing Visual Basic macros. Excel has no drill-through when you need to go deeper into the data, and it does not cope with large volumes. In Power BI the only limit on how much data you process at once is your server's memory.

Is my data safe in Analitika360 reports?

All data stored in Power BI is encrypted by default using Microsoft-managed keys. Customer data held in Azure SQL databases is fully encrypted with Azure SQL Transparent Data Encryption (TDE). Customer data in Azure Blob storage is encrypted with Azure Storage Encryption.

Is the connection between Analitika360 reports and the Rivilė database secure?

Yes. Analitika360 requires all inbound HTTP traffic to be encrypted with TLS 1.2 or later. Any request that tries to use TLS 1.1 or older is rejected.

Can Analitika360 reports be connected over a VPN?

Yes.

Is signing in to Analitika360 reports secure?

Yes — every user must use multi-factor authentication. An Analitika360 user signs in with a username, a password and a code sent to their phone.
